Tokyo born viola da gamba player Reiko Ichise enjoys her active career both as a soloist and a chamber musician. Reiko moved to London in 1991 after reading musicology at Kunitachi College of Music. She pursued her viola da gamba study with Richard Boothby at the Royal College of Music. Reiko now has established herself as one of the leading viola da gamba players in the UK. As a soloist, she regularly performs with many renowned orchestras including Academy of Ancient Music, English Baroque Soloists, Gabrieli Consort, The Kings Consort, Arte dei suonatori, recording and broadcasting.
Reiko is in great demand as a chamber musician and a member of eminent ensembles such as Florilegium, Passacaglia, the Bach players and the Elephant House Quartet, appearing in many international festivals and series and recording many CDs. From 2008 for 9 years, she was a member of award-winning gamba consort Fretwork, with whom she toured extensively throughout the world. Reiko is a professor of viola da gamba at Royal College of Music and lives in London.
